Merchant Account Credit Card Processing - Accept Credit Cards Online!
If you do not have a merchant account to accept credit cards online and you are selling products or services, you are missing out on huge potential for your business. Without a merchant credit card account then you are stuck with having to use a service like PayPal in order to process your online credit card payments.
There are two very big issues with using PayPal. For one, you are likely to lose a percentage of the potential business that will abandon the checkout process once they initiate the purchase and it transfers them to PayPal to complete. Even though they are not required to have a PayPal account in order to complete the purchase, they may believe that they are required to have one and some do not want one so they will abandon the process. And too, when you have a merchant account your customer never needs to leave your site and is able to complete their purchase in just a few clicks whereas, when you use PayPal not only do they leave your site it is a longer process to complete the purchase.
And, if that is not enough, PayPal now requires all merchants using their service to have a "Rolling Reserve". They will deduct on average 10% of all of your transactions and place this into a "hold" for an average of 60 days. They may require the reserve to be as large as $5,000! Now, I don't know about you, but having 10% of all of my online sales being held for 60 days is not acceptable.
With a merchant account, as long as you do not have excessive chargebacks or frauds the processor is not likely to require you to have a reserve. Why give up 10% of your money with a "rolling reserve" for 60 days when you can have it all right now and generally for a lower processing fee than Paypal charges you?
And it gets better. With PayPal you don't get a virtual terminal to manually process a credit card such as with a phone order or at a trade show, unless you pay an extra and significant monthly fee. With the merchant account you do get virtual terminal to manually process your credit cards online - all included!
And what if you have a retail storefront? PayPal Doesn't provide you with an electronic terminal to swipe cards. With this merchant processing account you can get a free terminal! (requires a retail application and has a $79 annual terminal replacement fee).
